Fire Damage Can Feel Overwhelming - SERVPRO Can Help!

3/3/2022 (Permalink)

What Does SERVPRO Do After a Fire in Park Forest?

Knowing what to expect after a devastating fire loss can help to offer peace of mind in a time of upheaval for your Park Forest home and your family. As overwhelming as the circumstance can be, mainly when structural damages and widespread hazards exist, knowing how our qualified professionals can help you is a great comfort to some homeowners.

We have extensive experience in Park Forest fire damage recovery and continual training through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and in-house coursework in various facets of fire restoration and cleaning, making us knowledgeable and confident in the work we do. We have a system that we follow in restoring fire losses, and that begins with our first contact with the customer or their insurance company.

Our SERVPRO team has established relationships with local insurance companies, helping us to better coordinate efforts and share vital information during this crisis recovery. When it comes to fire loss restoration, every minute counts and the longer we wait to begin mitigation, the more areas of the house become affected by spreading threats like odors, soot, smoke residues, and other particulates.

When our team first arrives, we start by conducting a thorough inspection of the property under the oversight of our project management and crew chief. If it is safe to do so, we can escort the homeowner through the site to get a better understanding of their knowledge of the situation and their wishes for their home moving forward. It is always our priority to meet or exceed the expectations of our customers.

We have several pieces of equipment that get brought into the staging areas that our SERVPRO team sets up throughout the damaged house. We address foul odors with tools and products, we can use cleaning agents for safely removing soot residues, and we have stationary filtration devices to begin making the air safer for our technicians to breathe as work continues.

There are many phases of fire recovery, and in many situations, the restoration of your home can take weeks or longer. It is always our priority to perform our jobs as promptly and as thoroughly as we can so that once our SERVPRO of Chicago Heights / Crete / Beecher team turns the property back to the customer, it is “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call anytime at (708) 672-0077.

Did You Know How Important Renters Insurance Is?

11/7/2021 (Permalink)

Are you covered If you are renting, it is so important to be covered with insurance!

We see disasters everyday... and one of the saddest things is when people don't have rental insurance and loose everything.  If you have questions about rental insurance you should speak to an agent for more information.

Top myths and the facts—about renters insurance from State Farm:

  1. The landlord's insurance covers your possessions. Don't count on it. Most landlords' insurance covers only the building and damages due to negligence.
  2. Renters insurance is expensive. In this case, the numbers speak for themselves. The average renters policy costs just $12 a month for up to $30,000 in personal property coverage. That's solid coverage for less than the cost of a couple of cups of coffee a week.
  3. Still concerned about price? Your insurer will work with you to find the combination of coverage and costs that suits your needs. You might even qualify for a discount by taking some simple home safety precautions or purchasing another policy, such as auto insurance, with the same insurer.
  4. You don't need insurance if your stuff isn't expensive. Most renters' belongings cost more than they think.
  5. Think that number is too high? Take a moment to add up the approximate cost of your computer, television, stereo, furniture, jewelry, and clothing. If a fire gutted your apartment tomorrow, would you have the cash to replace it all?
  6. Renters insurance covers only your possessions. In fact, renters insurance covers much more than just your personal property: The average policy also includes up to $100,000 in liability coverage. That means in the event of a covered loss your insurer will help cover the costs if you're held responsible for injuring another person or damaging another person's property, including your landlord's.
  7. Renters insurance is hard to get. You can research providers, compare quotes, and even find an agent online.

Mold Damage Requires Expertise and SERVPRO Is Here For You!

3/31/2021 (Permalink)

Mold growth can create a hazardous situation for Chicago area homes and businesses, so understanding the threat of what you face and how to overcome the organism is critical. With thousands of varieties of mold and multiple causes for the moisture that can facilitate colonization, a thorough inspection and assessment of your property is an important first step. Testing the environment may be a vital process of both the mold inspection process and the final approval of effective remediation and restoration practices by our qualified technicians.

Throughout the greater metropolitan area, our SERVPRO technicians help home and business owners with mold-related damages throughout the year. Our experienced team is ready to provide Mold Inspections and Air Sampling at your residence in Chicago Heights or commercial building. Knowing what to expect when our highly trained Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) arrive for an initial inspection can help you to understand how thorough this process is.

When we first arrive, our inspection team works on establishing an idea of the relative humidity throughout the house and checks areas like the foundation for leaks and moisture penetration, as well as the plumbing, air ducts, the roof, and windows. We also look to identify any musty odors present on the property. It is very challenging for property owners to identify the presence of mold, especially without being able to see the mold directly.

Mold Assessment - We offer indoor air quality and mold related assessments and consulting, providing our client’s remediation protocols, and we can conduct post-remediation assessments. The sampling of the environment from your home is sent to a nearby lab for further analysis. Under the charge of specialists, the concentration of mold spores can get determined.

An elevated volume of spores and fungal presence can indicate contamination, and our SERVPRO remediation team must get to work on mitigation strategies. This same air testing can occur throughout the remediation process and after the restoration has completed showing that our work has made the property safe for occupation again.

You might not always know when mold damage could exist in your home or business, but our SERVPRO of Chicago Heights / Crete / Beecher Applied Microbial Remediation Technicians (AMRT) can help. Give us a call at (708) 672-0077 for a thorough mold inspection of your Chicago Heights area residential or commercial property.

Water

Water losses comprise a majority share of the work that we do for Chicago Heights homes and businesses. We have made substantial investments into training our technicians and the tools that they utilize on a job site. We begin with ensuring that each of our professionals has a base certification as a Water Restoration Technician (WRT) through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) firm. Many pursue additional endorsements, including:

  • Applied Structural Drying (ASD)
  • Commercial Drying Specialist (CDS)
  • Odor Control Technician (OCT)
  • Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT)
  • Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT)

One of the innovative advancements that help us to provide a more efficient and transparent water damage recovery for Chicago Heights homes and businesses is our DryBook software. This program is exclusive to SERVPRO and helps to balance our efforts against the drying standards of the restoration industry. The program is also ideal for documenting all steps of the drying processes and their effects in real-time, which can help to showcase progress to our customers and clients.

We know the importance of removing standing water within your home, so we waste no time in employing the most effective extraction and drying equipment at our disposal. From wet-vacs and pumps of varying size and strength to hundreds of air movers and dehumidification drying units, we can handle water damage in Chicago Heights properties.

Mold

With flooding and water loss incidents being such persistent threats to many of the homes and businesses throughout Chicago Heights, mold is an eventuality that can be a costly condition without immediate remediation tactics. While many property owners might not actively look for mold growth, there are signs like spotting on drywall. Harsh, musty odors also indicate that can indicate a colony is forming or already active in your home. If you suspect that you might have a mold issue in your house, you can contact our SERVPRO professionals for evaluation and inspection. We also provide a necessary response for your property needs.

Mold growth can begin in as little as 48 hours from the time that your Chicago Heights property meets the necessary conditions. Moisture and dampness can originate from many sources. Addressing all of these possibilities is vital in contending with the current growth threat and limiting the possibility of recurrences with long-term moisture management solutions.

We know how quickly colonization occurs. Contending with mold damage in Chicago Heights homes starts with a fast response to these emergencies from our IICRC-Certified remediators. Even our owner, who holds an AMRT certification, says our team strives to have “the capability to respond faster and better to any disaster in our area.”

Storm

As we have been helping out residents in the area for more than a decade, we have seen the frequency that many Chicago Heights homes and businesses have to succumb to flooding. As such, we have always sought to provide the tips and strategies to keep you and your family safe first and worry about restoration and recovery efforts second. With how unsafe rising water can be, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Never drive on flooded streets.
  • Avoid downed power lines.
  • Keep a travel bag and emergency kit ready at all times.
  • Have an emergency plan in place for your entire family.

Once you have ensured the safety of your family and pets, you can work to address pressing flood and storm damage in Chicago Heights properties.

We have sophisticated recovery tools that can immediately address standing water and saturation concerns for construction materials and structural elements. With a team of contracting specialists in our crew, we also have the capability of providing emergency board up and roof tarping where needed to reduce further flood effects in Chicago Heights properties.

Fire

There are many more levels to fire damage in Chicago Heights homes than soot, odors, airborne threats, and smoke. For most properties dealing with even a moderate fire loss incident, recovery specialists must address suppression system residues, water damage, and other substances present during the combustion. Areas like your carpeting and upholstery are particularly susceptible to water damage. These residues that require cleanup, so they are focal points of the restoration services that our SERVPRO team provides.

Much like the storm damage that we can expect throughout the Chicago Heights area, fire safety is something that our professionals educate residents in the area about as well. As part of this readiness strategy and a system to keep your family safe in this time of crisis, we encourage all homeowners to purchase alert stickers that can detail special needs of occupants of your house, the number of people and pets in your family, and any other pertinent details.

We know that fire loss situations can be overwhelming and stressful, and that is why we invest so much in the education and training of our Fire & Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT.) We can provide a solid recovery strategy for your home and also help our customers through the traumatic experience with our compassionate approach.

The Greater Chicago area can be a centerpiece for all manner of disasters and emergencies, but our SERVPRO of Chicago Heights / Crete / Beecher team can help. We have a fast response and cutting-edge equipment to make any loss situation “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call today at (708) 672-0077.

SERVPRO Supports Our Local Fire FIghters in the Greater Chicago Area--We Even Decontaminate and Clean Their Break-=Out Gear

SERVPRO Supports Our Local Fire Fighters in the Greater Chicago Area

There are many ways that a local company or franchise can give back to the community. Whether to respond to a medical emergency or to a house fire, our regional Fire Departments are ready 24/7 to help, just as SERVPRO is also available 24/7/365 to assist our neighbors.

When a house fire breaks out in Chicago Heights, Park Forest or Beecher, the local Fire Department arrives swiftly to extinguish the flames and provide safety and comfort for the unfortunate residents. Documented studies have shown that two out of every three of these heroes will have a cancer diagnosis. They put themselves in jeopardy while saving lives and properties. They don personal protective equipment like helmets, boots, gloves, and turn-out gear that often becomes contaminated with combustible pollutants and substances.

So, how does SERVPRO provide a valuable service to our communities? We proudly support the Mabas Division 24, Mutual Aid Box Alarm System comprised of 21 Fire Departments in South Suburban Cook County, IL. We offer to clean and decontaminate the soiled break-out gear. This not only protects our First Responders from possible chemical and biological exposure but mitigates the degradation of the gear. In today's world, most communities have budgetary concerns that even affect their fire departments. Considering that 85% of the personnel are volunteers, we contribute to their well-being and safety as they do to ours. Since we are a full-service restoration company, we offer to our Emergency Responders discounted rates for any services we provide to their properties and contents.

The Esporta Wash System is installed in our SERVPRO facility where we can safely and quickly wash, decontaminate, and dry the break-out gear, including the helmets and boots. The NFPA, National Fire Protection Association, recognizes the power of this resource because it meets the stringent requirements for personal protection. Many insurance companies contract with us small and large-loss fire, water, and mold cleanups since our restoration rate of contents is about 90%. This is a win-win situation for all. Fewer expenses, faster results, and we even get to save our neighbor's daughter teddy bear.

Victim bags ready to help when disaster happens.

When your home is struck by fire or a major storm you may have only a few minutes to gather belongings and move to safety.  For many of us, gathering a few clothes, and the family photo album take priority over a toothbrush or comb.

At SERVPRO of Chicago Heights/ Crete/ Beecher we care about the community, that is why many of our staff carry these emergency bags in our vehicles.  Each bag contains a few of the essential personal care items that many people need after a fire or storm disaster.  Our hope is that each bag can bring a bit of comfort to the community after a tragedy.

Having your own preparedness bag is very important especially if you live in an area where natural disaster such as tornado can strike.  It is also important to remember, only gather personal effects when it is safe to do so: material belongs can be replaced, but a life can not be
